The Prince's Trust xl clubs

The clubs use an informal approach to learning, providing the space and attention young people need to develop confidence as well as to form a sense of ownership over their work and own development.
Young people meet in their clubs for at least three hours per week and guided by an xl club Adviser, are encouraged to work together to achieve goals relating to their education, training and future lives. They work to an exciting and diverse programme across five activity areas of Personal, Team and Interpersonal Skills, Active Citizenship, Entrepreneurship and Enterprise, Preparation for Work and Enrichment Projects. All work undertaken forms the evidence base for the young people to achieve The Prince’s Trust Ofqual accredited qualification at three different levels, whilst motivating them to continue with their formal learning.
Last year in the East Midlands The Trust supported over 480 young people through 50 xl clubs operating in 24 schools and centres. On completion of the programme, 31% moved into employment and 78% stayed in education or went onto a training course.
The Wilson Foundation supported year 10 clubs at both Abbeyfield School and Kettering Science Academy in Northamptonshire for the past three years. Students in the Abbeyfield Club produced short films on issues relevant to them. They planned, scripted, acted and animated the films, with the support of a local producer.
